RFID Chips and Facebook
The Facebook phenomenon of “liking” something has now extended beyond the screens of your computer or smart phone. Via the trendwatching.com June 2011 Briefing, we have discovered that brands are coming up with interesting, new ways to get people to interact with their products and “like” stuff out in the real, physical world.
Through RFID technology placed in cards and wristbands, users can link up to their Facebook page and go around “liking”, updating their status, and tagging pictures. The technology that is commonly used on toll roads, payment cards, and other practical venues is now the “bridge” between the social media platform and the real world. This is just another brilliant way for digital savvy consumers to be connected and to interact with the brand at hand.
